TRADITION AND QUALITY MEET DESIGN
The year 1905 was one of radical change and technical progress. It was precisely during these exciting times that the Swabian knife manufacturer Friedr. Dick scrutinised the knife designs that had been common up to that time. Knife handles had always been attached to the forged blade with 3 rivets. This meant that the knives of many knife manufacturers were identical down to the last detail. Friedr. Dick developed a unique series of knives that clearly stood out from all previous designs.

INNOVATIVE DESIGN
Friedr. Dick already had an eye for beautiful design in 1905 when it developed a knife series with solid collars. These replaced the round rivets that had been known and in use until then. Unfortunately, this early 20th century design has fallen into oblivion, but it experienced a revival in 2010. All knives in the 1905 series have a distinctive handle. Steel rings alternate with the high-quality and resistant plastic without gaps, making the handle a haptic as well as a visual experience. The F. DICK embossing on the knife blade completes the classically modern design of the series.

SHARP BLADE
Yet the knives in the 1905 series can do more than just look beautiful. They also have very sharp quality features: The high-end chrome steel XCrMoV15 keeps your blade sharp for a long time. This edge retention supports you in your daily use. The blade is honed twice and is therefore particularly sharp.

SAFETY
Safety is also taken care of. A half bolster finger guard protects your fingers, but you can also easily resharpen the cutting edge completely. In the 1905 series, many classic but also special knife shapes are available, leaving nothing to be desired.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping.
Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

A: This steak knife is suited for chefs, hospitality operators, and serious home cooks who value precision at the table. Professional kitchens and steakhouses benefit from consistent portioning and clean presentation during service. The knife’s construction supports repeated daily use without compromising handling. Q: Is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Steak Knife suitable for professional restaurant service?

A: Yes, it is built to perform reliably in high-demand restaurant environments. The 1905 series is known for durability, balance, and controlled handling, all critical in service conditions where knives are used continuously. The materials and construction support frequent washing and repeated use without rapid degradation. Its refined appearance also aligns with upscale table settings, making it appropriate for both back-of-house prep and front-of-house presentation.

Q: Can this steak knife handle thick or well-done cuts of meat?

A: Yes, the knife is designed to cut cleanly through both tender and firmer cooked meats. The blade geometry and edge sharpness allow it to penetrate seared crusts and denser textures without excessive force. This is particularly important for well-done steaks or thicker cuts where lower-quality knives tend to tear rather than slice. Users can expect controlled cuts that maintain the structure of the meat rather than shredding it.

Q: How sharp is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Steak Knife out of the box?

A: It arrives with a finely honed edge suitable for immediate table service use. Friedr. Dick is known for producing blades with consistent factory sharpness, designed for professional expectations. The edge is tuned for slicing rather than aggressive sawing, which improves the dining experience. With proper maintenance, the knife retains this sharpness well over time.

Q: What kind of cutting performance should users expect?

A: Users can expect smooth, controlled slicing with minimal resistance. The knife’s balance and edge profile allow for clean cuts through meat fibers, reducing pressure during use. This improves both precision and comfort, especially during extended service or multi-course dining. In practical terms, it enhances both plating quality and guest experience.

Q: What makes the 1905 Series different from other steak knives?

A: The 1905 Series combines historical design elements with modern performance-focused construction. Its distinctive handle integrates steel rings with durable handle material, improving grip security and hygiene compared to traditional riveted handles. This design also contributes to balanced weight distribution. Compared to standard steak knives, it offers a more refined feel and consistent cutting performance aligned with professional use.

Q: Is the handle comfortable for extended use?

A: Yes, the handle is designed for stability and comfort during repeated use. The ergonomic shape supports a secure grip without creating pressure points, which is important in both service and extended dining settings. The integration of steel rings enhances tactile feedback and control. This reduces fatigue and improves cutting precision over time.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Steak Knife durable for long-term use?

A: Yes, it is built for long-term durability in professional and home environments. The blade uses high-quality German steel known for its balance between hardness and toughness. This helps resist chipping while maintaining edge retention. The overall construction is designed to withstand repeated washing, handling, and daily use without compromising performance.

Q: Does this steak knife require special maintenance?

A: It requires standard knife care to maintain performance and longevity. Regular honing helps maintain the edge between sharpenings, while periodic sharpening restores peak performance. Hand washing and proper drying are recommended to preserve both blade and handle integrity. These practices are consistent with professional knife maintenance standards.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Steak Knife dishwasher safe?

A: Hand washing is recommended to preserve the knife’s condition over time. While the materials are durable, dishwashers can accelerate wear on both the blade edge and handle components. High heat and detergents may reduce long-term performance. Manual cleaning ensures better edge retention and overall longevity.

Q: How does this steak knife compare to entry-level steak knives?

A: It offers higher precision, better balance, and longer-lasting performance. Entry-level knives often prioritize cost over material quality and edge geometry, which can result in tearing rather than slicing. The 1905 Series focuses on controlled cutting and durability. For users who prioritize consistent results and refined handling, the difference is noticeable in daily use.

Q: How does the 1905 Series compare to other Friedr. Dick knife series?
