DURABLE SHARPNESS
X30Cr13 is the secret of the high-quality stainless steel and delivers durable sharpness thanks to its individual qualities. The forged knives in the ActiveCut series are honed twice during the final sharpening process – this gives them their special sharpness.

PERFECT FOR THE PROFESSIONAL KITCHEN
The knife fits comfortably in your hand. The handle is made of a non-slip and abrasion-resistant material, preparing you for all challenges in the kitchen. Now, wet hands and hygiene are no longer a problem. The handle and the blade are joined without gaps and therefore absolutely hygienic. In addition, the ActiveCut knives are perfectly balanced, which means that this knife's centre of gravity is exactly in the middle of the knife, between the blade and the handle. This supports you in your daily tasks and saves your strength.

MADE IN GERMANY
The ActiveCut series is made in Germany. A good knife requires many work steps. Our ActiveCut knives go through numerous production steps at our Deizisau site before they are finished. Starting with the machining of the steel and right through to the finishing of the cutting edge.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

BLADE GUARD FOR KNIVES
Blade guard – Edge Guard, the special blade guard for storage, especially in drawers. Click here to see the blade guard for blades up to 26 cm.

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

FAQ

FAQ

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" best for?

A: The F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" is best suited for slicing foods with firm exteriors and softer interiors, including crusty bread, tomatoes, citrus, sandwiches, sausages, and prepared proteins. Its serrated edge helps maintain cutting performance on delicate or slippery surfaces where a straight-edge knife may crush or tear the product. In professional prep environments, this makes it useful for repetitive slicing tasks that require clean presentation with less pressure on the product. The 10" blade length also provides more reach than smaller utility knives, allowing smoother draw cuts on longer ingredients and portioning tasks. For cafés, bakeries, sandwich counters, catering operations, and prep kitchens, this knife supports fast, controlled slicing throughout service.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10"?

A: The F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" is designed for chefs, sandwich stations, bakeries, catering teams, culinary students, and serious home cooks who need reliable serrated cutting performance. Its profile fits users who regularly work with breads, produce, prepared sandwiches, and proteins with textured exteriors. The knife balances professional handling with approachable usability, making it suitable for both experienced culinary teams and developing cooks. Because the serrated edge stays effective for long periods between sharpenings, it also works well in high-volume environments where operational consistency matters more than delicate precision work.

Q: What makes the F. Dick ActiveCut series different from entry-level kitchen knives?

A: The F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" belongs to the F. Dick ActiveCut series, which is positioned as a professional-focused forged knife line built for regular kitchen use. Compared with many entry-level utility knives, the ActiveCut series emphasizes balance, ergonomic handling, and long-term kitchen durability. The knife is designed for repeated prep work rather than occasional household use. For culinary professionals and serious home cooks, that translates into more controlled handling during long prep sessions, more consistent slicing performance, and improved comfort during repetitive cutting tasks.

Q: Can the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" cut bread and sandwiches effectively?

A: Yes. The serrated edge profile is specifically suited for breads, sandwiches, rolls, bagels, and layered products that benefit from a sawing-style cutting motion. The serrations grip crusts and textured surfaces without requiring excessive downward force. This helps reduce compression on soft interiors and preserves product presentation during slicing. For sandwich shops, cafés, bakeries, and hotel breakfast programs, this type of utility knife supports cleaner cuts with less tearing and more consistent portions during busy service periods.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" suitable for tomato and citrus prep?

A: Yes. Serrated utility knives are commonly used for tomatoes, citrus, and other smooth-skinned produce because the edge can penetrate slippery surfaces cleanly. The blade teeth help initiate cuts without crushing softer interiors. This improves consistency for garnish prep, sandwich stations, salads, and plated presentation work. In professional kitchens, this type of knife is often preferred for ingredients where maintaining shape and appearance matters during high-volume prep.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" suitable for professional kitchens?

A: Yes. The ActiveCut line is positioned toward working culinary environments where comfort, reliability, and daily utility are important. The knife’s serrated format reduces the frequency of sharpening maintenance compared with straight-edge knives used on similar products. That makes it practical for prep stations with continuous slicing demands. For restaurants, cafés, bakeries, catering operations, and institutional kitchens, the knife supports repetitive slicing work while maintaining predictable handling characteristics throughout service.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" a good choice for culinary students?

A: Yes. The knife offers a practical introduction to professional-grade serrated utility knives without requiring highly specialized knife skills. Its intended applications are straightforward and easy to understand, especially for bread, produce, and sandwich prep. Students can use it to develop safe slicing habits while learning proper pressure control and cutting techniques. The longer-lasting serrated edge can also reduce maintenance demands for newer users who are still learning sharpening and knife care practices.

Q: How does the serrated edge improve cutting performance?

A: The serrated edge uses small cutting teeth that grip and separate tougher outer surfaces while protecting softer interiors from crushing. This makes the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" particularly effective on crusty bread, ripe tomatoes, citrus fruits, and layered sandwiches. The cutting motion relies more on controlled slicing than downward pressure. In fast-paced prep environments, serrated blades also tend to maintain functional performance longer between sharpening intervals, which can help support workflow consistency.

Q: What results should users expect from the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10"?

A: Users should expect controlled slicing performance, reduced tearing on delicate products, and consistent handling during repetitive prep work. The knife is intended to produce cleaner cuts on foods that are difficult to slice cleanly with straight-edge blades. This is especially important for presentation-focused foodservice operations where portion appearance matters. For professional users, the combination of blade length and serrated geometry supports efficient prep while helping reduce unnecessary pressure and hand fatigue during longer tasks.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" comfortable during extended prep sessions?

A: The ActiveCut series is positioned around professional handling and ergonomic balance for repeated kitchen use. For prep teams working through repetitive slicing tasks, balanced handling can improve control and reduce strain over time. This becomes particularly important in sandwich assembly, bakery prep, and catering production environments. The utility format also offers more maneuverability than larger chef knives for smaller slicing tasks and detailed prep work.

Q: How should the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" be cleaned and maintained?

A: The knife should be hand washed, dried promptly after cleaning, and stored safely to help preserve edge condition and overall longevity. Serrated knives generally require less frequent sharpening than straight-edge knives when used appropriately. However, proper storage and regular cleaning remain important for maintaining cutting performance and hygiene. In commercial kitchens, storing the knife in a knife rack, blade guard, or dedicated knife case can help protect both the edge and surrounding tools.

Q: Does the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" require frequent sharpening?

A: No. One advantage of serrated knives is that they typically maintain usable cutting performance longer than comparable straight-edge blades used on crusted or textured foods. Because the serrations contact the cutting surface differently, the recessed cutting edges experience less direct wear during normal slicing tasks. This can reduce sharpening frequency in busy prep environments. When sharpening eventually becomes necessary, many operators prefer professional sharpening services for serrated blades to maintain the original tooth geometry.

Q: Is a 10" serrated utility knife too large for general prep work?

A: Not necessarily. A 10" utility knife offers additional slicing length that can improve efficiency when working with larger breads, sandwiches, proteins, and long produce items. Compared with shorter utility knives, the extended blade allows smoother slicing motions with fewer interruptions during the cut. This can improve consistency and presentation quality. For users who primarily prepare sandwiches, bakery items, or buffet production, the additional blade length is often an operational advantage rather than a limitation.

Q: What types of kitchens benefit most from the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10"?

A: The knife is particularly well suited for cafés, bakeries, sandwich programs, hotel breakfast service, catering operations, and general prep kitchens. These environments often require high-frequency slicing of bread products, tomatoes, citrus, sandwiches, and prepared proteins. A serrated utility knife helps support speed and consistency in those workflows. For operators building a practical knife kit, this style of knife typically complements chef knives and paring knives by covering texture-sensitive slicing tasks more effectively.

Q: How does the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" compare to a straight-edge utility knife?

A: A straight-edge utility knife is generally better for precision trimming and fine slicing, while a serrated utility knife performs better on crusted, slippery, or delicate-surface foods. The F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" prioritizes slicing efficiency on products where grip and surface penetration matter more than razor-thin precision cuts. Many professional kitchens use both formats together because each serves a different prep function within the workflow.

Q: How does the F. Dick ActiveCut series compare to the F. Dick ProDynamic series?

A: The ActiveCut series is positioned higher than the ProDynamic line within the broader F. Dick knife family. ProDynamic focuses on accessible professional utility and value-oriented kitchen performance, while ActiveCut moves toward a more refined professional handling experience with greater emphasis on balance and long-session comfort. For operators and cooks upgrading from entry-level professional knives, ActiveCut may appeal to users who spend long hours on prep and want a more premium handling feel without moving into luxury-oriented collections.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" efficient during rush periods?

A: Yes. The knife is designed to support fast, repeatable slicing on breads, sandwiches, tomatoes, citrus, and prepared proteins during high-volume service. Its serrated edge helps reduce drag and compression when portioning softer products quickly. That can improve both workflow speed and presentation consistency across multiple orders. For café operators and sandwich stations, this type of knife helps streamline repetitive prep while minimizing unnecessary product damage during service.

Q: Can the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" handle crusty artisan breads?

A: Yes. The serrated blade format is particularly effective on artisan loaves, baguettes, rolls, and crusted baked products. The cutting teeth help penetrate firm crusts while reducing compression inside softer bread structures. This helps maintain cleaner slices and a more controlled presentation. For bakery teams handling fresh breads throughout the day, serrated utility knives are often preferred because they maintain effective cutting performance during repeated use.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" easy to control?

A: Yes. The knife is designed around practical professional handling and predictable slicing performance. Because the serrated edge assists with surface penetration, newer users often find it easier to start cuts cleanly on difficult products like tomatoes and crusted breads. That can help build confidence during prep work. For culinary students building foundational knife skills, this style of utility knife supports safe and consistent slicing techniques across a wide range of kitchen tasks.

Q: Does the F. Dick ActiveCut Serrated Utility Knife 10" replace a bread knife?

A: In some kitchens, yes. For smaller households and general-purpose use, a long serrated utility knife can cover many bread and sandwich tasks that would otherwise require a dedicated bread knife. Its narrower profile also provides more maneuverability for produce, citrus, sandwiches, and smaller baked goods. That makes it useful for users who prefer a compact but versatile serrated option. However, operators regularly slicing large artisan loaves may still prefer a full-length dedicated bread knife for maximum cutting reach and stability.
