PROFESSIONALS TRUST US – FOR A LIFETIME
The knife is the extension of the chef's arm. With the Premier Plus series, your knife works practically by itself. This gives you time not only to concentrate on your craft, but also to give your creativity free rein to create exciting dishes. This is exactly what trained professional chefs and our top chefs appreciate about the F. DICK brand - quality that will accompany you for a lifetime.

FORGED BALANCE
All Premier Plus knives are forged and perfectly balanced. Already during the development of the knives, we placed special emphasis on optimising the weight distribution between the blade and the handle so that the knife feels light and comfortable in your hand. Imagine your handle is too heavy or your blade too heavy. Your knife would always tend towards the heavy side and you would have to fight against the weight when cutting. This will certainly not happen with Premier Plus knives.

SHARP
The blade is made of the high quality X50CrMoV15 steel alloy. Each component of this steel has its own impressive features. Thanks to the high carbon content, the edge retains its sharpness for a particularly long time, the chromium content reduces wear and the molybdenum makes your knife particularly corrosion-resistant. We have also decided to polish the cutting edge to give the knives a special sharpness. Premier Plus knives are uncompromising in their design when it comes to sharpness. The food is cut exactly and not broken or squashed. This way, you work with precise, clean cuts, allowing the variety of flavours in the dish to come to the fore.

ERGONOMIC HANDLE
The Premier Plus knives support you in your kitchen adventures. Our special handle concept also speaks for itself: The handle and blade are joined together without gaps, making them particularly hygienic and easy to maintain. The handle feels comfortable and adapts to your hand thanks to its ergonomic design. This is important to prevent your hand from tiring quickly when you use the knife for a long time.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

BLADE GUARD FOR KNIVES
Blade guard – Edge Guard, the special blade guard for storage, especially in drawers. Click here to see the blade guard for blades up to 26 cm.

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

FAQ

FAQ

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife 4" best for?

A: The Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife 4" is best suited for precision decorative cuts, garnish work, fruit and vegetable detailing, and controlled finishing tasks in professional kitchens. Its compact blade length and specialized edge geometry provide greater control during intricate prep work where larger chef knives feel oversized or imprecise. Chefs commonly use this type of knife for decorative vegetable cuts, citrus work, presentation-focused plating, and detailed trimming tasks that require consistent hand positioning. Within the Premier Plus series, the knife also benefits from forged German construction, balanced weight distribution, and an ergonomic handle profile designed for repetitive professional use. That combination makes it appropriate for kitchens where presentation standards matter and prep speed must remain efficient.

Q: Who should use the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife?

A: The Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife is designed primarily for professional chefs, culinary students, garde manger teams, caterers, and serious home cooks who regularly perform precision prep work. This knife type becomes especially valuable in kitchens focused on plated presentation, buffet production, banquets, fine dining, hospitality service, and decorative garnish preparation. Smaller precision knives help reduce overcutting and improve consistency during detailed work. For culinary students and developing professionals, it also serves as a useful training tool for controlled knife technique because the shorter blade offers predictable handling and maneuverability.

Q: What makes the Premier Plus series different from entry-level knife lines?

A: The Premier Plus series is positioned as a premium forged professional knife collection focused on balance, durability, edge stability, and long-term kitchen performance. Compared with stamped or entry-level kitchen knives, Premier Plus knives typically offer improved structural rigidity, more refined balance, and a fuller professional hand feel. The forged construction contributes to better control during repetitive prep tasks and sustained commercial use. For chefs working extended prep shifts, the ergonomic handle shape and balanced profile can also help reduce hand fatigue compared with lighter, less structured alternatives.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife suitable for professional kitchens?

A: Yes. The Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife is designed specifically for professional kitchen environments and repeated daily prep work. Its forged construction, ergonomic handle, and controlled blade format align well with the needs of restaurants, hotels, catering teams, culinary schools, and banquet operations where precision cutting tasks occur frequently throughout service preparation. Unlike decorative-purpose consumer knives that prioritize appearance over function, this knife is built around professional workflow efficiency, handling consistency, and durability.

Q: Can the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife handle high-volume prep work?

A: Yes, particularly for repetitive precision-oriented prep tasks such as garnish production, decorative vegetable cuts, fruit detailing, and presentation finishing. The knife is not intended to replace a chef knife or utility knife for large-volume breakdown work. Instead, it complements broader prep workflows by improving control during specialized cutting tasks that require accuracy and visual consistency. In high-output kitchens, this specialization helps maintain presentation quality without slowing overall prep operations.

Q: Is a 4-inch decorating knife too small for everyday kitchen prep?

A: For general prep, a 4-inch decorating knife is intentionally specialized rather than universal. Its shorter blade excels in controlled detail work where maneuverability matters more than cutting surface length. Tasks such as tournée cuts, garnish shaping, decorative scoring, citrus preparation, and small produce trimming benefit from the tighter control this format provides. Most chefs pair this type of knife with larger chef, utility, or paring knives as part of a broader knife kit.

Q: How precise is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife?

A: The Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife is designed for high precision and controlled cutting accuracy. The shorter blade profile improves visibility and hand positioning during intricate cuts, while the forged construction helps stabilize the blade during delicate movements. This is particularly useful for decorative prep where uneven cuts become visually noticeable during plating or buffet presentation. For culinary professionals, that precision contributes to cleaner presentation standards and more repeatable prep results.

Q: What kind of edge retention should users expect from the Premier Plus series?

A: The Premier Plus series is designed to provide strong edge retention suitable for demanding professional kitchen environments. Like most professional German forged knives, the edge balance prioritizes durability, maintainability, and long-term reliability rather than extremely brittle ultra-hard sharpening angles. This makes the knife practical for kitchens where consistent daily performance matters more than delicate specialty sharpening profiles. With proper honing and maintenance, users can expect dependable cutting performance during repeated commercial use.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife comfortable during extended prep sessions?

A: Yes. The ergonomic handle design and balanced forged construction help support comfortable handling during prolonged kitchen use. Professional kitchens often require repetitive knife movements over long prep periods. A balanced knife reduces strain by distributing weight more naturally through the hand and wrist. The Premier Plus handle profile is designed to provide secure grip stability without feeling overly bulky during precision work. That combination becomes particularly important for chefs working garde manger, banquet prep, or presentation-heavy service stations.

Q: Does the forged construction improve cutting control?

A: Yes. Forged knife construction generally improves balance, structural stability, and cutting predictability. For precision knives like this decorating model, that added stability helps reduce blade flex during intricate cuts. Users often notice more controlled hand movement and cleaner execution when compared with lighter stamped alternatives. In practical kitchen use, this translates into more consistent decorative work and improved confidence during detailed prep tasks.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife easy to maintain?

A: Yes. The knife follows standard professional knife maintenance practices and is relatively straightforward to care for. Regular honing helps maintain edge alignment, while periodic sharpening restores cutting performance over time. Hand washing and immediate drying are recommended to preserve both the blade and handle condition. Like most professional forged kitchen knives, proper storage using knife rolls, magnetic strips, or blade guards also helps extend edge life.

Q: What accessories pair well with the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife?

A: This knife pairs well with sharpening steels, whetstones, blade guards, knife rolls, magnetic storage systems, and professional cutting boards. Because decorative knives are precision-oriented tools, edge maintenance accessories become especially important. A proper honing steel helps maintain edge alignment between sharpenings, while softer professional cutting surfaces help reduce unnecessary edge wear. Many chefs also integrate this knife into larger Friedr. Dick knife systems for consistency across prep stations.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife suitable for culinary students?

A: Yes. Culinary students often benefit from specialized knives that reinforce proper control and cutting technique. The compact blade size can help newer users develop precision handling skills during garnish preparation, vegetable shaping, and presentation-oriented prep exercises. The professional-grade construction also allows students to train using equipment standards closer to commercial kitchen expectations. For culinary education environments, durability and maintainability are also important long-term advantages.

Q: What should buyers expect from a professional decorating knife compared with a standard paring knife?

A: A professional decorating knife focuses more heavily on presentation-oriented precision work than a general-purpose paring knife. While both knives operate in smaller-format prep categories, decorating knives are often optimized for visual detail, controlled shaping, and intricate finishing tasks. Their handling characteristics typically support greater accuracy during decorative cutting applications. For kitchens emphasizing plating consistency and garnish quality, this specialization becomes valuable.

Q: How does the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife compare with lower-cost decorating knives?

A: The Premier Plus Decorating Knife emphasizes forged construction, ergonomic balance, and long-term professional durability over entry-level affordability. Lower-cost alternatives may perform adequately for occasional decorative tasks, but professional kitchens generally benefit from stronger structural consistency, better balance, and more dependable edge behavior during sustained use. For chefs working repetitive prep shifts, these differences often become more noticeable over time through comfort, precision consistency, and maintenance stability.

Q: How does the Premier Plus series compare with Japanese-style precision knives?

A: The Premier Plus series follows a traditional German-professional philosophy emphasizing durability, balance, and versatile long-term performance. Many Japanese precision knives prioritize harder steel and thinner blade geometry for extremely fine cutting characteristics. By comparison, Premier Plus knives generally offer more forgiving maintenance characteristics and stronger resilience under demanding commercial workflows. For many professional kitchens, the choice depends on workflow preference, sharpening style, and the balance between precision and durability priorities.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife reliable during service prep?

A: Yes. The knife is designed for dependable professional use where consistency, precision, and handling stability matter throughout repeated prep cycles. Its forged construction and ergonomic balance support sustained garnish and presentation prep without feeling unstable during fast-paced kitchen workflows. For chefs managing banquet production, garde manger stations, or plated service, the compact format also improves detailed finishing efficiency.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife a good first precision knife?

A: Yes. It offers a professional-level introduction to precision prep tools without becoming overly specialized or difficult to control. The shorter blade encourages controlled movement and proper grip development during decorative prep exercises. Students can practice detailed cutting techniques using the same professional construction standards commonly found in commercial kitchens.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife practical outside professional kitchens?

A: Yes, especially for home cooks who enjoy presentation-focused cooking, entertaining, charcuterie preparation, or advanced knife work. While casual kitchens may not require a dedicated decorating knife every day, users interested in refined plating and precise prep often appreciate the additional control this knife format provides. The professional-grade construction also supports long-term ownership rather than occasional disposable use.

Q: Does the Friedr. Dick Premier Plus Decorating Knife support high-presentation environments?

A: Yes. Catering, banquet, and hospitality operations frequently depend on visually consistent prep and garnish production across large service volumes. The knife’s precision-oriented format helps teams maintain cleaner decorative cuts and more uniform presentation standards during buffet, plated event, and front-facing foodservice preparation. Its forged professional construction also supports repeated transport and commercial kitchen usage.
