PROFESSIONALS TRUST US – FOR A LIFETIME
The knife is the extension of the chef's arm. With the Premier Plus series, your knife works practically by itself. This gives you time not only to concentrate on your craft, but also to give your creativity free rein to create exciting dishes. This is exactly what trained professional chefs and our top chefs appreciate about the F. DICK brand - quality that will accompany you for a lifetime.

FORGED BALANCE
All Premier Plus knives are forged and perfectly balanced. Already during the development of the knives, we placed special emphasis on optimising the weight distribution between the blade and the handle so that the knife feels light and comfortable in your hand. Imagine your handle is too heavy or your blade too heavy. Your knife would always tend towards the heavy side and you would have to fight against the weight when cutting. This will certainly not happen with Premier Plus knives.

SHARP
The blade is made of the high quality X50CrMoV15 steel alloy. Each component of this steel has its own impressive features. Thanks to the high carbon content, the edge retains its sharpness for a particularly long time, the chromium content reduces wear and the molybdenum makes your knife particularly corrosion-resistant. We have also decided to polish the cutting edge to give the knives a special sharpness. Premier Plus knives are uncompromising in their design when it comes to sharpness. The food is cut exactly and not broken or squashed. This way, you work with precise, clean cuts, allowing the variety of flavours in the dish to come to the fore.

ERGONOMIC HANDLE
The Premier Plus knives support you in your kitchen adventures. Our special handle concept also speaks for itself: The handle and blade are joined together without gaps, making them particularly hygienic and easy to maintain. The handle feels comfortable and adapts to your hand thanks to its ergonomic design. This is important to prevent your hand from tiring quickly when you use the knife for a long time.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife best used for?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife is designed as an all-purpose professional kitchen knife for slicing, chopping, mincing, and precision prep work across meat, vegetables, herbs, and proteins. Its broad blade profile and forged construction make it suitable for continuous prep tasks in professional kitchens, butcher shops, culinary schools, and serious home cooking environments. The chef knife format is considered the core knife type in most professional knife rolls because it handles a wide range of cutting techniques without requiring constant tool changes. Within the Premier Plus series, this knife emphasizes balance, durability, and controlled handling. The forged German construction supports repeated daily use while maintaining a stable feel during longer prep sessions. This makes it particularly useful for chefs who need one primary knife that can move efficiently between station tasks.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife is best suited to professional chefs, culinary students, butchers, foodservice teams, and serious home cooks looking for a durable forged chef knife with traditional German handling characteristics. Professional users benefit from the knife’s balance and long-term durability during repetitive prep work. Culinary students often choose chef knives in this category because they support foundational cutting techniques and remain versatile across multiple kitchen environments. For experienced home cooks, the knife offers professional-grade control without requiring specialized knife knowledge. Its shape and handling feel familiar to users transitioning from entry-level knives into higher-performance forged cutlery.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife suitable for professional kitchens?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife is built specifically for demanding professional kitchen environments where reliability, balance, and edge stability matter during extended prep work. The Premier Plus series is positioned as one of Friedr. Dick’s core forged professional knife lines. The knife is designed for repetitive station use, including vegetable prep, portioning proteins, and general production work in restaurants, hotels, catering operations, and institutional kitchens. The forged construction also helps improve structural rigidity and long-term durability compared with lighter stamped alternatives. For chefs working multiple shifts or high-volume prep lists, this contributes to a more controlled and consistent cutting experience.

Q: Can the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife handle heavy prep work?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife is designed to manage both precision cutting and heavier day-to-day prep tasks in commercial and high-output kitchen environments. Its forged blade construction provides the strength and stability needed for repetitive chopping, slicing, and portioning. The blade geometry supports efficient rocking cuts while maintaining enough control for finer knife work such as herb preparation and detailed vegetable cuts. For kitchens that process larger ingredient volumes, the knife’s balance helps reduce fatigue during prolonged use. This is particularly valuable for prep cooks, line cooks, and culinary teams handling continuous production throughout service periods.

Q: What cutting tasks is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife most effective for?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife performs best for multi-purpose prep tasks including chopping vegetables, slicing proteins, mincing herbs, dicing onions, and portioning larger ingredients. Chef knives are designed to function as primary workstation knives, and the Premier Plus version follows the traditional German profile that supports both rocking and push-cut techniques. This versatility allows users to transition between prep tasks efficiently without changing knives frequently. The blade shape also provides enough knuckle clearance for comfortable board work, which is important during longer prep sessions in professional kitchens.

Q: How does the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife compare to stamped chef knives?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife offers a more substantial and balanced feel than many stamped chef knives due to its forged construction. Forged knives are typically preferred in professional kitchens because they provide improved structural rigidity, long-term durability, and a more stable cutting experience during repetitive use. The Premier Plus series is designed around these traditional professional characteristics. Stamped knives may feel lighter and can work well for certain users, but many chefs prefer forged chef knives for heavier prep volumes and long-term daily service. The additional weight and balance can improve control during continuous cutting tasks.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife a good choice for culinary students?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife is a strong option for culinary students who want a professional-grade knife that can continue into long-term kitchen use. Chef knives are foundational tools in culinary training because they support most core knife techniques taught in professional programs. A forged chef knife like the Premier Plus allows students to develop consistent cutting habits while using equipment commonly found in commercial kitchens. The knife also fits well within progression-based purchasing. Many students begin with entry-level knives and later upgrade, but Premier Plus offers a level of durability and versatility that can remain useful well beyond culinary school.

Q: What makes the Premier Plus series different from other F. Dick knife series?

A: The Premier Plus series focuses on classic forged German chef-knife performance with an emphasis on balance, durability, and professional utility. Compared with visually distinctive lines such as Red Spirit or heritage-oriented collections like 1905, Premier Plus maintains a more traditional professional appearance and handling profile. Many chefs prefer this because it prioritizes practical workflow performance over decorative styling. The series is particularly attractive to professionals who value reliability, familiar ergonomics, and long-term service life in demanding prep environments.

Q: How durable is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife is built for long-term professional use when properly maintained and sharpened. Its forged construction improves structural strength and stability during repeated cutting tasks. In commercial kitchens, forged chef knives are often selected specifically because they tolerate continuous prep workloads better than lighter-duty alternatives. Like any professional knife, durability also depends on proper use. The knife should be used on appropriate cutting surfaces and maintained regularly with proper sharpening and storage practices.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife comfortable for long prep sessions?

A: Yes. The knife is designed to provide balanced handling and controlled grip comfort during extended kitchen prep work. In professional kitchens, poor balance or uncomfortable grip geometry can contribute to fatigue during repetitive cutting. The Premier Plus series is engineered to support stable handling across longer shifts and higher prep volumes. This makes the knife particularly useful for chefs, prep cooks, and butchers who rely on one primary knife throughout service preparation.

Q: What type of steel does the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife use?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife uses professional-grade German stainless steel designed for durability, edge retention, and repeated kitchen use. German knife steel is commonly associated with toughness, practical maintenance characteristics, and reliability in commercial environments. This supports consistent performance across varied prep applications, including proteins, vegetables, and general station work. The steel formulation is selected to balance hardness with maintainability, which is important in kitchens where knives require regular sharpening and continuous daily use.

Q: Can the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife be used for meat and vegetables?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife is intended as a multi-purpose knife capable of handling both proteins and produce efficiently. Its blade profile supports clean slicing through vegetables while maintaining enough stability for trimming and portioning meats. This versatility is one reason chef knives remain the primary knife style in most professional kitchens. For users who prefer streamlined workflows, a multi-purpose chef knife reduces the need to switch constantly between specialized knives during prep.

Q: How should the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife be maintained?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife should be hand washed, dried immediately after cleaning, and maintained with regular honing and sharpening. Professional chef knives should not be left wet for extended periods or cleaned in harsh commercial dishwashing cycles. Proper maintenance helps preserve edge quality and overall knife longevity. Routine honing between sharpenings also helps maintain cutting consistency during regular kitchen use. Many professional kitchens pair forged chef knives with sharpening steels as part of daily maintenance workflows.

Q: Does the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife work well for serious home cooks?

A: Yes. The knife is well suited to experienced home cooks who want professional-level cutting performance and durability in a residential kitchen environment. Many serious home cooks eventually move beyond entry-level knives and look for equipment with better balance, longer service life, and more refined cutting control. The Premier Plus series fits this progression well because it maintains a practical, professional-first design philosophy. Its versatility also makes it useful for home users who prefer investing in one primary knife capable of handling most kitchen prep tasks.

Q: How does the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife compare to Japanese-style chef knives?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife follows a traditional German chef-knife profile, which generally emphasizes durability, balance, and versatile all-purpose performance. Japanese-style chef knives are often thinner and lighter with different edge geometries focused on precision slicing. In contrast, forged German chef knives typically prioritize robustness and controlled handling during varied prep tasks. For many professional kitchens, German chef knives remain popular because they perform reliably across a broader range of ingredients and cutting conditions.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife reliable for high-volume restaurant prep?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife is designed for repeated daily prep in commercial kitchen environments where consistency and durability are essential. Restaurant kitchens often require knives that can transition quickly between vegetables, proteins, herbs, and general station prep without sacrificing control. The forged Premier Plus construction supports this type of continuous workflow. Its balanced handling also helps reduce fatigue during extended prep periods common in high-output kitchens.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife easy to learn with?

A: Yes. The knife supports foundational cutting techniques commonly taught in culinary programs and professional training environments. Its traditional chef-knife profile allows users to practice rocking cuts, slicing, dicing, and precision prep using a format widely recognized across professional kitchens. This helps create consistency between school instruction and real kitchen workflows. The knife also provides enough versatility that users can continue using it as they progress into professional roles.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife a good upgrade from entry-level kitchen knives?

A: Yes. The Premier Plus Chef Knife is often a natural progression for users moving from basic consumer knives into professional forged cutlery. Compared with many entry-level knives, the forged construction offers improved balance, more stable handling, and better long-term durability during regular prep work. This difference becomes especially noticeable during repetitive cutting tasks. For serious home cooks and developing professionals, upgrading to a forged chef knife can improve both cutting confidence and workflow efficiency.

Q: Does the F. Dick Premier Plus Chef Knife fit into professional kitchen workflows?

A: Yes. The knife is designed around the practical demands of professional prep stations and multi-task kitchen workflows. Chef knives are typically the central tool within a professional knife setup because they handle the majority of prep applications efficiently. The Premier Plus series supports this role through durable construction, balanced handling, and versatile cutting performance. This makes it suitable for restaurants, catering teams, hotel kitchens, butcher operations, and culinary training environments.

Q: Why do many chefs prefer forged chef knives like the F. Dick Premier Plus?

A: Many chefs prefer forged chef knives because they provide a more balanced, stable, and durable cutting experience during prolonged kitchen use. Forged construction generally creates a stronger blade structure and a more substantial in-hand feel compared with lighter stamped alternatives. For chefs performing repetitive prep throughout service, this can improve control and confidence during cutting. The Premier Plus series reflects this traditional professional approach by focusing on practical performance, long-term reliability, and everyday kitchen utility.
