The non-slip handle made of high-quality plastic allows you to guide the knife harmoniously and comfortably – a particular advantage during intensive use.

MADE IN GERMANY
A good knife requires many work steps. Our Red Spirit knives go through numerous production steps at our Deizisau site before they are finished. Starting with the machining of the steel and right through to the finishing of the cutting edge, everything made in Germany – for the love of quality.

UNCOMPROMISING SHARPNESS
The blades are designed with an uncompromising eye for sharpness, which is why they are ground extra slim. Like all our knives, the Red Spirit series is made of high-alloy stainless steel, so you can take pleasure in the edge retention of your knives for years to come.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

BLADE GUARD FOR KNIVES
Blade guard – Edge Guard, the special blade guard for storage, especially in drawers. Click here to see the blade guard for blades up to 26 cm.

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

FAQ

FAQ

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" best for?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" is best for high-volume vegetable prep, fine slicing, and fast transfer cutting in professional and serious home kitchens. Its broad blade profile gives cooks more surface contact with ingredients while maintaining the agility needed for repetitive prep work. Unlike a heavy cleaver designed for chopping through bone, this Chinese chef knife is intended for precise slicing, shredding, dicing, and portioning. Within the Red Spirit series, this knife combines the thin, controlled cutting feel associated with Asian-inspired knife geometry and the durability expected from a German professional knife manufacturer. The tall blade also helps with ingredient scooping and bench transfer during prep-heavy workflows.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7"?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" is well suited to chefs, culinary students, prep cooks, and serious home cooks who want fast, controlled vegetable and protein prep. Professional users benefit from the knife’s efficient blade height and repetitive cutting comfort during long prep sessions. The profile supports push cutting, slicing, chiffonade work, and rapid station prep without requiring excessive wrist movement. For serious home cooks, the knife offers a versatile alternative to a traditional Western chef knife, especially for users interested in Asian-inspired cutting techniques or high-efficiency prep workflows.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" designed for heavy cleaver work?

A: No. The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" is designed for slicing and precision prep rather than cutting through bones or frozen foods. Although the blade has the visual profile of a cleaver, its thinner geometry is intended for controlled cutting performance. It excels at vegetables, boneless meats, herbs, and fine prep tasks where smooth cutting and blade control matter more than impact force. Using this knife for hard bone work or frozen ingredients may damage the cutting edge and reduce long-term edge performance.

Q: How does the Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife perform during high-volume prep?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" performs especially well during repetitive prep because the tall blade and balanced profile support efficient movement and consistent cutting control. The wide blade gives additional knuckle clearance and helps stabilize long slicing motions. This is useful in restaurant prep environments where cooks process large quantities of vegetables, herbs, aromatics, or boneless proteins throughout service preparation. The Red Spirit series is also known for its ergonomic handle shape, which helps reduce fatigue during extended cutting sessions.

Q: What cutting techniques work best with the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7"?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" works best with push cutting, slicing, shredding, julienne work, chiffonade cutting, and controlled rocking motions. Its blade shape supports clean forward slicing and fast repetitive prep movements. The tall blade profile also improves control during fine vegetable work because the guiding hand has more surface reference against the blade. Many chefs also use this knife for transferring ingredients directly from cutting board to pan because of the broad blade surface.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" suitable for professional kitchens?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife 7" is designed for professional kitchen environments where reliability, cutting precision, and repetitive prep performance matter. Friedr. Dick knives are widely associated with culinary professionals, butchers, and foodservice operations. The Red Spirit series specifically targets users who prefer a modern ergonomic profile combined with practical day-to-day cutting performance. Its balance of control, blade height, and handling efficiency makes it particularly useful in prep stations focused on vegetables, garnishes, and fast line support tasks.

Q: What should users expect from the blade shape of the Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife?

A: Users should expect a tall, rectangular blade profile that improves ingredient control, transfer efficiency, and cutting visibility. Compared with a traditional Western chef knife, the broader blade gives more contact area against the guiding hand and allows ingredients to be moved quickly after cutting. This improves workflow speed during prep-heavy tasks. The blade profile also encourages smooth slicing motions rather than aggressive chopping force.

Q: What makes the F. Dick Red Spirit series different from other knife series?

A: The Red Spirit series combines a modern Asian-inspired knife profile with German manufacturing standards and a highly recognizable ergonomic red handle. Compared with more traditional forged German knife lines, Red Spirit knives emphasize agility, cutting flow, and modern kitchen ergonomics. The series is popular with chefs who prefer lighter handling characteristics and efficient prep movement. Within the broader Friedr. Dick lineup, Red Spirit is positioned as a professional-focused series with strong visual identity and practical station performance.

Q: How does the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife compare to a traditional Western chef knife?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife offers more blade height and ingredient transfer capability than a traditional Western chef knife. A Western chef knife generally has a pointed tip and curved belly designed for rocking cuts. The Chinese chef knife profile prioritizes flat contact, slicing efficiency, and prep control across vegetables and boneless proteins. Users moving from a classic chef knife often notice improved visibility during slicing tasks and faster ingredient handling during prep.

Q: How does the Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife compare to a heavy meat cleaver?

A: The Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife is lighter, thinner, and more precise than a heavy meat cleaver. A meat cleaver is intended for impact cutting through hard materials such as bone and dense joints. The Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife focuses on precision prep and controlled slicing performance. For most kitchen prep applications involving vegetables, herbs, and boneless meats, the Chinese chef knife provides significantly more finesse and cutting control.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife easy to control for detailed prep?

A: Yes. The tall blade and balanced handle design help improve stability and hand positioning during fine prep work. Many cooks find the broad blade easier to guide during repetitive slicing because the guiding knuckles maintain more consistent contact against the blade face. This can improve rhythm and cutting consistency during vegetable prep. The ergonomic Red Spirit handle also supports secure grip positioning in both professional and home kitchen environments.

Q: Can the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife handle proteins as well as vegetables?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife works well for boneless proteins in addition to vegetables and herbs. Its blade geometry supports smooth slicing through poultry, fish, pork, and trimmed meats without excessive tearing. The wide blade also helps portion ingredients cleanly and efficiently during prep. However, the knife is not intended for cutting through hard cartilage, bone, or frozen products.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife suitable for culinary students?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife is a strong option for culinary students learning high-efficiency prep techniques. The blade profile encourages disciplined cutting movements and supports many foundational prep tasks taught in culinary environments. Students working heavily with vegetables, herbs, and mise en place preparation may appreciate the added blade height and transfer efficiency. The knife also introduces users to Asian-inspired prep styles while maintaining familiar German handling quality.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife comfortable for long prep sessions?

A: Yes. The ergonomic handle and balanced blade profile are designed to support repetitive professional use. The Red Spirit series places strong emphasis on grip comfort and cutting flow. During extended prep periods, the knife’s geometry helps reduce unnecessary wrist movement while maintaining stable board contact. For cooks working multiple prep hours per shift, this can contribute to more controlled and efficient cutting performance.

Q: How should the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife be maintained?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife should be hand washed, dried immediately after use, and maintained regularly with appropriate sharpening tools. Like most professional kitchen knives, prolonged dishwasher exposure may affect edge retention and handle longevity. Regular honing helps maintain consistent cutting performance between sharpenings. Proper storage in a knife roll, blade guard, magnetic rack, or professional knife block also helps protect the edge.

Q: What accessories pair well with the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife pairs well with sharpening steels, knife guards, magnetic storage systems, and professional cutting boards. Because the knife is often used for high-frequency prep work, maintaining edge alignment is especially important for consistent slicing performance. Professional-grade cutting boards also help preserve edge longevity over time. Many chefs using the Red Spirit series also build matching prep kits around sharpening and storage accessories from Friedr. Dick.

Q: What type of cutting board works best with the Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife?

A: A professional-grade wood or soft synthetic cutting board works best with the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife. Hard surfaces such as glass, stone, or ceramic can prematurely wear the blade edge and reduce cutting performance. Softer board materials help maintain sharpness and support smoother cutting action. This is especially important for knives designed for repetitive slicing and fine edge control.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife reliable in fast-paced prep environments?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife is designed for repetitive prep efficiency and controlled cutting performance in professional kitchens. Its blade height supports rapid ingredient transfer and stable slicing motions during high-output prep periods. The ergonomic Red Spirit handle also improves comfort during long production shifts. For stations handling vegetables, herbs, garnishes, or boneless proteins, the knife supports fast and organized workflow execution.

Q: Is the Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife difficult to learn?

A: No. Many culinary students find the broad blade profile intuitive once basic cutting technique is established. The tall blade provides strong visual reference and controlled hand positioning during prep exercises. This can help newer users build consistent slicing habits and improve knife confidence over time. The knife also supports multiple prep techniques commonly taught in professional culinary training environments.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife practical for everyday cooking?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Chinese Chef Knife is practical for everyday prep tasks ranging from vegetables and herbs to boneless proteins and meal prep. Its versatility allows many users to complete a large portion of kitchen prep with a single knife. The broad blade also improves transfer efficiency, reducing unnecessary handling during cooking. For home cooks interested in professional-style prep workflow, it offers both performance and day-to-day practicality.
