We look at the world with open eyes and are always inspired by fresh impressions and insights to create new ideas.

ASIAN-STYLE HANDLE
The round, typically Asian-inspired handle has an unusual feel to it. It sits perfectly in your hand and meets all the ergonomic requirements of professional chefs and ambitious amateur chefs. The non-slip handle made of high-quality plastic allows you to guide the knife harmoniously and comfortably – a particular advantage during intensive use.

MADE IN GERMANY
A good knife requires many work steps. Our Red Spirit knives go through numerous production steps at our Deizisau site before they are finished. Starting with the machining of the steel and right through to the finishing of the cutting edge, everything made in Germany – for the love of quality.

UNCOMPROMISING SHARPNESS
The blades are designed with an uncompromising eye for sharpness, which is why they are ground extra slim. Like all our knives, the Red Spirit series is made of high-alloy stainless steel, so you can take pleasure in the edge retention of your knives for years to come.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

BLADE GUARD FOR KNIVES

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

FAQ

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" best used for?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is designed for precise hand-controlled prep tasks such as peeling, trimming, garnishing, and detail cutting. Its compact blade size gives cooks greater control during delicate kitchen work where larger chef knives feel oversized or less accurate. In professional kitchens, paring knives are commonly used for fruit preparation, herb trimming, shallot work, decorative cuts, and small produce processing. Within the Red Spirit series, this knife combines compact precision with the recognizable ergonomic red handle profile that many chefs prefer for long prep sessions. The shorter blade also makes it easier to work directly in-hand rather than only on a cutting board, which is important for precision-oriented prep workflows.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5"?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is suitable for professional chefs, culinary students, butchers, prep cooks, and serious home cooks who need fine cutting control. For professional users, a paring knife is one of the most frequently handled secondary knives during service and mise en place. It supports repetitive precision tasks that require agility rather than blade length or chopping power. For serious home cooks, the knife offers a professional-style cutting experience in a highly approachable format. The compact blade size also makes it less intimidating for users transitioning from standard consumer kitchen knives into professional-grade tools.

Q: What makes the Red Spirit series different from traditional German chef knife lines?

A: The Red Spirit series combines German knife manufacturing with a slimmer, more agile profile inspired by Asian-style kitchen workflows. Traditional German knives often prioritize heavier construction and thicker blade geometry. Red Spirit knives are generally more streamlined and designed for fluid movement, faster handling, and precision-oriented prep. The distinctive red handle also creates immediate visual identification in professional kitchens. Many chefs appreciate the combination of lighter handling characteristics and the durability expectations associated with Friedr. Dick professional tools.

Q: How precise is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" for detailed prep work?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is built specifically for high-precision prep where close blade control matters. The shorter blade allows tighter cutting angles and improved maneuverability around curved produce, herbs, citrus, and garnish work. This makes it particularly useful for tasks that require accuracy rather than force. In professional prep environments, small blade control directly affects speed, consistency, and waste reduction. A properly balanced paring knife helps users maintain cleaner cuts and more controlled movements during repetitive prep tasks.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" suitable for professional kitchen prep?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is designed for repeated daily use in professional culinary environments. Paring knives are essential station tools in restaurants because they support constant fine-detail prep throughout service. The Red Spirit line is positioned toward professional users who prioritize edge performance, ergonomics, and reliable handling during extended prep sessions. Its compact format also makes it practical for tight prep stations, garnish stations, pastry work, and mobile culinary setups where precision tools are frequently handled.

Q: What cutting tasks should not be done with the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5"?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is not intended for heavy chopping, frozen foods, hard bones, or large-volume cutting tasks. Paring knives are optimized for control and detail work rather than force-intensive applications. Using a small precision blade for heavy-duty cutting can reduce edge life and increase the risk of slipping during prep. For larger prep tasks, chefs typically pair a paring knife with a chef knife, santoku knife, or utility knife from the same Red Spirit series to maintain workflow consistency.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" comfortable during long prep sessions?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is designed with an ergonomic handle profile intended for repeated professional kitchen use. Comfort becomes especially important with small knives because they are often held continuously during intricate prep work. The handle shape supports controlled grip positioning while reducing unnecessary hand fatigue during repetitive movements. Many culinary professionals also prefer the tactile feel and visual identification of the Red Spirit handle design during fast-paced service environments.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" a good choice for culinary students?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is a strong option for culinary students building foundational knife skills. Paring knives are one of the first precision tools students learn to use during classical prep training. The compact blade encourages controlled technique development for peeling, tournée work, trimming, and garnish preparation. The knife also introduces students to professional-grade balance and edge performance without requiring the investment of a full premium knife roll immediately.

Q: How portable is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" for mobile culinary work?

A: The compact size of the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" makes it highly portable for catering kits, culinary school rolls, food trucks, and mobile prep setups. Smaller knives are often among the most-used tools in compact work environments because they handle a wide range of detailed prep tasks without requiring much workspace. Its lightweight format also makes it practical for chefs who carry personal knife kits between kitchens or events.

Q: How durable is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" for repeated kitchen use?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is built for repeated professional culinary use when properly maintained. Friedr. Dick is recognized for producing professional-grade culinary knives designed around long-term workflow performance, edge reliability, and ergonomic handling. As with most precision kitchen knives, durability depends heavily on correct use, proper storage, regular honing, and avoiding misuse on hard or frozen products.

Q: How should the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" be maintained?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" should be hand washed, dried promptly, and maintained with regular honing. Professional knife maintenance helps preserve edge consistency and cutting control over time. A sharpening steel or professional sharpening schedule is typically recommended depending on kitchen volume and frequency of use. Proper storage also matters. Knife rolls, magnetic strips, edge guards, or professional knife cases help reduce unnecessary edge wear during transport and storage.

Q: Does the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" require sharpening often?

A: Like all frequently used precision knives, the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" benefits from routine edge maintenance rather than infrequent heavy sharpening. In professional kitchens, paring knives often see constant detail work throughout the day. Regular honing helps maintain alignment between sharpening intervals and preserves cutting consistency. Users who perform high-volume prep may sharpen more frequently than occasional home users, but proper daily care significantly extends edge performance.

Q: What knives pair well with the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5"?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" is commonly paired with chef knives, santoku knives, bread knives, and utility knives from the same Red Spirit series. The paring knife fills the fine-detail role that larger blades cannot handle efficiently. Using multiple knives from the same series also creates more consistent handling characteristics across different prep tasks.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" better suited for professionals or home cooks?

Compared with many consumer paring knives, professional models typically emphasize edge consistency, balance, ergonomic handling, and long-term workflow performance. A professional-quality paring knife gives students more consistent feedback during skill development. Its compact format also makes daily transport easier for students carrying full culinary kits between classes and practical labs.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Paring Knife 3.5" too professional for home kitchens?
