PROFESSIONALS TRUST US – FOR A LIFETIME
The knife is the extension of the chef's arm. With the Premier Plus series, your knife works practically by itself. This gives you time not only to concentrate on your craft, but also to give your creativity free rein to create exciting dishes. This is exactly what trained professional chefs and our top chefs appreciate about the F. DICK brand - quality that will accompany you for a lifetime.

FORGED BALANCE
All Premier Plus knives are forged and perfectly balanced. Already during the development of the knives, we placed special emphasis on optimising the weight distribution between the blade and the handle so that the knife feels light and comfortable in your hand. Imagine your handle is too heavy or your blade too heavy. Your knife would always tend towards the heavy side and you would have to fight against the weight when cutting. This will certainly not happen with Premier Plus knives.

SHARP
The blade is made of the high quality X50CrMoV15 steel alloy. Each component of this steel has its own impressive features. Thanks to the high carbon content, the edge retains its sharpness for a particularly long time, the chromium content reduces wear and the molybdenum makes your knife particularly corrosion-resistant. We have also decided to polish the cutting edge to give the knives a special sharpness. Premier Plus knives are uncompromising in their design when it comes to sharpness. The food is cut exactly and not broken or squashed. This way, you work with precise, clean cuts, allowing the variety of flavours in the dish to come to the fore.

ERGONOMIC HANDLE
The Premier Plus knives support you in your kitchen adventures. Our special handle concept also speaks for itself: The handle and blade are joined together without gaps, making them particularly hygienic and easy to maintain. The handle feels comfortable and adapts to your hand thanks to its ergonomic design. This is important to prevent your hand from tiring quickly when you use the knife for a long time.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

FAQ

FAQ

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife best used for?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife is designed for precision hand work such as peeling, trimming, tournée cuts, garnishing, and detailed fruit or vegetable preparation. Its short 9 cm blade provides close control during delicate prep tasks where larger chef knives can feel oversized or less precise. In professional kitchens, paring knives are often used for in-hand cutting applications, small ingredient preparation, and finishing work that requires accuracy rather than long slicing strokes. Within the Premier Plus series, this knife combines forged German construction with a balanced full-tang design, making it suitable for repeated daily prep in commercial environments. The compact blade also gives culinary students and serious home cooks more confidence during detailed cutting tasks.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife is suitable for professional chefs, culinary students, butchers, prep cooks, and serious home cooks who need reliable control for small precision tasks. In commercial kitchens, paring knives are essential secondary tools used throughout prep stations for ingredient finishing, trimming, peeling, and detailed garnish work. The compact blade size helps reduce waste while improving control during repetitive fine-motor cutting tasks. For home users, the knife offers a professional-style forged construction without requiring the space or handling demands of larger blades. It is particularly useful for cooks who regularly prepare fresh produce, herbs, citrus, garlic, and smaller ingredients.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife a forged knife?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife is part of the forged Premier Plus professional knife series. Forged knives are produced from a single piece of steel, which typically improves balance, durability, and long-term structural stability compared to stamped alternatives. In practical use, this creates a more solid hand feel and greater consistency during repetitive prep work. The Premier Plus series is positioned as one of Friedr. Dick’s traditional professional forged collections, built for kitchens that prioritize durability, handling stability, and long service life.

Q: What makes the Premier Plus series different from entry-level kitchen knives?

A: The Premier Plus series focuses on forged construction, long-term durability, balance, and professional handling characteristics. Compared with entry-level stamped knives, Premier Plus knives generally provide a more substantial feel in the hand, improved balance through the bolster and tang construction, and greater stability during demanding prep sessions. These characteristics become more noticeable during extended professional use. The series is designed for users who value dependable daily performance rather than decorative styling or trend-driven features. This aligns closely with the needs of chefs, culinary schools, and high-volume kitchen environments.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife suitable for professional kitchens?

A: Yes. The knife is built for repeated professional use in commercial prep environments. Paring knives are among the most frequently used secondary knives in professional kitchens because they support detailed prep work across garde manger, pastry, butchery support, and line preparation. The forged construction and ergonomic handle design help maintain control during repetitive cutting tasks. The Premier Plus series is positioned specifically toward professional culinary users who require dependable edge performance and handling consistency across long shifts.

Q: Can the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife handle daily prep work?

A: Yes. The knife is designed for consistent daily use across repetitive precision prep tasks. Its compact blade is well suited for peeling potatoes, trimming strawberries, segmenting citrus, hulling tomatoes, shaping vegetables, and similar fine-detail preparation. Because the blade is shorter and more agile than larger prep knives, it helps improve control in tight cutting movements. The forged construction also supports long-term durability in kitchens where knives are used continuously throughout service preparation.

Q: Is this paring knife better for in-hand work or cutting board work?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife is primarily optimized for in-hand precision work. Paring knives are commonly used while holding the ingredient directly in the hand, especially for peeling, trimming, and decorative cuts. The shorter blade length improves maneuverability and control during these tasks. While the knife can still be used on a cutting board for smaller ingredients, larger slicing or chopping tasks are generally better suited to chef knives, santoku knives, or utility knives.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife suitable for beginners?

A: Yes. The compact blade size makes it approachable for beginners while still meeting professional performance expectations. Smaller blades are often easier to control for newer cooks because they require less force and allow more precise hand positioning. This can improve confidence during detailed cutting work and reduce accidental overcutting. At the same time, the forged construction and professional ergonomics make the knife appropriate for culinary students developing long-term knife skills.

Q: How sharp is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife?

A: The knife is designed to deliver precise, clean cuts suitable for detailed prep work. A properly sharpened forged paring knife should move cleanly through herbs, fruits, vegetables, and small proteins without excessive pressure. This improves both cutting accuracy and ingredient presentation. Because Friedr. Dick is also known for professional sharpening systems, the company’s knife lines are designed around maintainable edge performance rather than disposable sharpness.

Q: What type of handle does the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife use?

A: The knife uses an ergonomic professional-style handle designed for secure grip and controlled handling. In practical kitchen use, handle comfort matters most during repetitive prep sessions where fatigue and grip stability become important. The Premier Plus series focuses on balanced handling and reliable control rather than decorative handle styling. This makes the knife appropriate for both wet and dry prep environments commonly found in commercial kitchens.

Q: What results should users expect from the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife?

A: Users should expect controlled precision cutting, dependable handling, and consistent performance during fine prep tasks. A quality paring knife helps improve prep accuracy while reducing unnecessary ingredient waste. Tasks such as peeling, trimming, and decorative cuts become cleaner and easier to repeat consistently. For professional users, this contributes to workflow efficiency and presentation quality across prep stations.

Q: Does the forged construction improve durability?

A: Yes. Forged knife construction is generally associated with improved long-term durability and structural stability. Because the blade is formed from a single piece of steel, forged knives often provide stronger balance and greater resistance to flex or structural fatigue during repeated use. This becomes especially important in commercial kitchens where knives are used continuously. The added stability also contributes to more controlled cutting performance over time.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife easy to maintain?

A: Yes. The knife follows standard professional knife maintenance practices. Regular honing helps maintain edge alignment, while periodic sharpening restores cutting performance over time. Hand washing and proper drying are recommended to help preserve edge quality and handle condition. Like most forged professional knives, the knife performs best when stored properly and maintained consistently rather than treated as a disposable kitchen tool.

Q: What knife types pair well with the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife?

A: The paring knife is commonly paired with a chef knife, santoku knife, utility knife, or bread knife within the same kitchen setup. In most workflows, the paring knife handles precision detail work while larger knives manage chopping, slicing, and portioning tasks. This creates a more efficient prep system by matching blade size to task type. Many professional kitchens build their knife kits around this combination approach.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife suitable for culinary students?

A: Yes. The knife is well suited to culinary education and foundational knife skill development. Culinary students regularly perform detailed prep work involving fruits, vegetables, herbs, and garnish preparation. A compact forged paring knife provides the control necessary to practice these techniques accurately. The professional-grade construction also allows students to continue using the knife as they transition into commercial kitchen environments.

Q: How does the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife compare to stamped paring knives?

A: The Premier Plus Paring Knife provides a more substantial forged feel, improved balance, and greater long-term durability than most stamped alternatives. Stamped knives are often lighter and more economical, which can work well for occasional use. However, forged knives typically offer greater stability and a more controlled hand feel during demanding prep work. For professional or high-frequency users, these handling differences become more noticeable over time.

Q: How does the Premier Plus series compare to the F. Dick Red Spirit series?

A: Premier Plus emphasizes traditional forged German knife handling, while Red Spirit focuses on a more modern visual identity and profile. Premier Plus knives are often preferred by users who want classic professional balance and understated styling. Red Spirit knives tend to appeal to chefs looking for a more distinctive aesthetic and lighter visual presentation. Both series are designed for professional kitchen use, but the handling preference is often personal and workflow dependent.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife reliable during high-volume prep?

A: Yes. The knife is designed for repeated precision prep work in demanding kitchen environments. Professional prep workflows often require hundreds of repetitive peeling, trimming, and garnish motions during a single shift. The forged construction and ergonomic handling help maintain consistency and control during extended use. Its compact format also allows fast transitions between prep tasks without the bulk of larger station knives.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Paring Knife a good first forged knife?

A: Yes. It offers professional construction while remaining approachable for foundational knife skill development. Many culinary students begin with paring knives because the smaller blade size encourages better hand positioning and cutting discipline. The forged Premier Plus construction also introduces students to the balance and feel expected in professional kitchens. This makes it a practical long-term tool rather than a temporary starter knife.

Q: Why choose a professional paring knife instead of a standard household knife?

A: A professional paring knife typically provides better balance, cleaner cutting performance, and longer-term durability. Home cooks who regularly prepare fresh ingredients often notice improved precision during peeling, trimming, and decorative prep tasks. The forged construction also creates a more stable and controlled cutting experience compared with lightweight household knives. For users building a long-term kitchen setup, a professional paring knife becomes one of the most frequently used daily tools.
