The clear but striking design will make your Red Spirit knives a real eye-catcher in your kitchen. We look at the world with open eyes and are always inspired by fresh impressions and insights to create new ideas.

ASIAN-STYLE HANDLE
The round, typically Asian-inspired handle has an unusual feel to it. It sits perfectly in your hand and meets all the ergonomic requirements of professional chefs and ambitious amateur chefs. The non-slip handle made of high-quality plastic allows you to guide the knife harmoniously and comfortably – a particular advantage during intensive use.

MADE IN GERMANY
A good knife requires many work steps. Our Red Spirit knives go through numerous production steps at our Deizisau site before they are finished. Starting with the machining of the steel and right through to the finishing of the cutting edge, everything made in Germany – for the love of quality.

UNCOMPROMISING SHARPNESS
The blades are designed with an uncompromising eye for sharpness, which is why they are ground extra slim. Like all our knives, the Red Spirit series is made of high-alloy stainless steel, so you can take pleasure in the edge retention of your knives for years to come.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

BLADE GUARD FOR KNIVES
Blade guard – Edge Guard, the special blade guard for storage, especially in drawers. Click here to see the blade guard for blades up to 26 cm.

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

FAQ

FAQ

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife Kullenschliff 7" best for?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife Kullenschliff 7" is best for fast, precise vegetable prep, fine slicing, and all-purpose kitchen work where clean cuts and reduced food sticking matter. Its Santoku blade profile combines a relatively flat cutting edge with a slightly rounded tip, making it well suited for push cuts, slicing, and rapid prep tasks. The kullenschliff edge, also known as granton or hollow-edge dimples, helps reduce drag and minimizes sticking when cutting ingredients such as potatoes, cucumbers, proteins, and herbs. Within the Red Spirit series, this knife is designed for cooks who want a lightweight, agile knife with a distinctly modern profile. The 7" blade length gives enough cutting surface for larger prep work while remaining compact and responsive during repetitive tasks.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife Kullenschliff 7"?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife Kullenschliff 7" is suitable for professional chefs, culinary students, and serious home cooks who want a versatile prep knife with precise handling. Professional users benefit from the knife’s balance, nimble blade shape, and efficient workflow during long prep sessions. Culinary students often choose Santoku knives because they are approachable, easy to control, and adaptable across multiple ingredients and techniques. For serious home cooks, the knife offers professional-grade geometry without the size and weight of a larger chef knife. It fits well into kitchens where one primary knife handles most daily prep tasks.

Q: What makes the Red Spirit Santoku different from a traditional chef knife?

A: The Red Spirit Santoku is generally lighter, flatter, and more compact than a traditional Western chef knife. A Santoku knife is designed around efficient slicing, push cutting, and controlled prep work. Compared with a classic German chef knife, the blade profile has less curve, which changes the cutting motion and often improves control for fine vegetable work and detail-oriented prep. The Red Spirit version also emphasizes agility and responsiveness. Many users prefer this style when preparing vegetables, herbs, fish, boneless proteins, or smaller-volume prep where speed and precision matter more than rocking cuts.

Q: Can the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife handle everyday kitchen prep?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife is designed to function as a primary daily-use kitchen knife. Its blade shape supports common prep tasks including slicing vegetables, trimming proteins, mincing herbs, portioning boneless meats, and preparing sandwiches or garnishes. The kullenschliff edge also improves food release during repetitive slicing. For many kitchens, a 7" Santoku becomes the most frequently used knife because it balances versatility, maneuverability, and comfort across multiple prep stations and cooking styles.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife suitable for professional kitchens?

A: Yes. The Red Spirit Santoku series is designed with professional kitchen workflows in mind. The knife prioritizes control, edge performance, and ergonomic handling during repeated use. Its lighter feel can help reduce fatigue during extended prep sessions, particularly in vegetable-heavy stations or high-volume mise en place work. The Red Spirit line is also visually distinctive, which many chefs appreciate in shared kitchen environments where tool identification matters.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife beginner-friendly?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife is approachable for newer users while still meeting professional performance expectations. The 7" blade length feels manageable for users transitioning from standard household knives. The Santoku profile naturally encourages controlled cutting motions, which can help newer cooks build safer knife technique and confidence during prep. At the same time, the knife maintains the steel quality, balance, and cutting precision expected from a professional-grade F. Dick knife.

Q: What does the kullenschliff edge do on the Red Spirit Santoku Knife?

A: The kullenschliff edge creates small air pockets that help reduce food sticking during slicing. These hollow-edge indentations are especially useful when cutting moist or dense ingredients such as potatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, fish, or cooked proteins. By reducing surface contact between the blade and food, the knife moves more smoothly through repetitive cuts. In practical kitchen use, this can improve prep speed and reduce interruptions caused by ingredients clinging to the blade.

Q: How sharp is the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife is designed to deliver precise, professional-level sharpness suitable for detailed prep work. F. Dick is known for producing knives with strong cutting performance and refined edge geometry. The Santoku format benefits from this particularly well because clean slicing and controlled cuts are central to how the knife is used. Users should expect smooth cuts through vegetables, herbs, boneless proteins, and delicate ingredients with minimal tearing or crushing when the knife is properly maintained.

Q: What kind of cutting motion works best with this Santoku knife?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife performs best with push cuts, slicing motions, and controlled forward cutting techniques. Unlike heavily curved chef knives designed for aggressive rocking motions, Santoku knives are optimized for cleaner vertical and forward slicing movements. This makes them especially effective for vegetable prep and precision cuts. Users transitioning from Western chef knives may notice improved control during detail work and thinner slicing applications.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife durable enough for repeated daily use?

A: Yes. The Red Spirit Santoku Knife is built for repeated kitchen use in demanding prep environments. F. Dick professional knives are designed around long-term cutting performance, ergonomic handling, and dependable blade stability. The Red Spirit series is intended for cooks who use their knives consistently rather than occasionally. Like all fine kitchen knives, durability also depends on correct use. The knife is best suited for slicing and prep work rather than hard impact tasks such as cutting frozen foods or heavy bone work.

Q: How comfortable is the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife during long prep sessions?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife is designed for balanced, controlled handling during extended kitchen work. Its relatively lightweight Santoku profile reduces unnecessary wrist fatigue while maintaining enough blade presence for stable cutting. The handle shape supports secure grip positioning during repetitive prep tasks. Many professional users prefer lighter Santoku knives for vegetable prep stations because they allow faster movement and more precise directional control.

Q: Is the Red Spirit Santoku Knife easy to maintain?

A: Yes. The Red Spirit Santoku Knife follows standard professional knife care practices and is straightforward to maintain with proper handling. Regular honing helps maintain edge alignment between sharpenings, while occasional sharpening restores peak cutting performance. Hand washing and immediate drying are recommended to preserve the blade and handle condition over time. Using appropriate cutting surfaces, such as quality cutting boards, also helps extend edge life and maintain cutting consistency.

Q: Can the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife be used for meat and fish?

A: Yes. The Red Spirit Santoku Knife works well for boneless meats, fish, and portioning tasks. Its sharp edge and relatively thin blade geometry allow clean slicing through proteins without excessive tearing. The kullenschliff design can also help reduce sticking when portioning fish or slicing cooked meats. However, the knife is not intended for cutting through bones, frozen products, or heavy butchery applications.

Q: What is included with the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife?

A: The product includes the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife Kullenschliff 7" from the Red Spirit knife series. The focus of this product is the knife itself rather than a bundled accessory system. Users often pair it with sharpening steels, knife guards, storage solutions, or professional cutting boards depending on their workflow. The knife also integrates naturally into broader Red Spirit collections for users building a coordinated prep setup.

Q: What other knives are available in the F. Dick Red Spirit series?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit series includes Santoku knives, chef knives, bread knives, boning knives, carving knives, utility knives, paring knives, and specialty Japanese-inspired profiles. This allows users to maintain a consistent handle feel and cutting style across different prep tasks. Many professional kitchens prefer working within a single knife family for ergonomic consistency and workflow familiarity. The Red Spirit collection is particularly recognized for its bold visual identity and modern professional design language.

Q: How does the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku compare to a Western chef knife?

A: The Red Spirit Santoku generally offers a lighter, more agile cutting experience focused on precision prep work. A Western chef knife typically has a broader blade and more pronounced curve for rocking cuts and heavier prep applications. The Santoku format prioritizes slicing efficiency, speed, and cleaner push cutting motions. Users who prepare large volumes of vegetables or prefer compact knife control often gravitate toward Santoku knives for daily prep.

Q: How does the Red Spirit Santoku compare to other premium Santoku knives?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku stands out for its professional German manufacturing heritage, lightweight handling, and practical kitchen-focused design. Compared with some premium Santoku knives that prioritize decorative finishes or collector appeal, the Red Spirit line remains strongly performance-oriented. The kullenschliff edge, ergonomic balance, and professional workflow focus make it particularly relevant for active kitchen use. Its distinct red handle also gives the series immediate visual recognition in professional environments.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Santoku Knife a good first professional knife?

A: Yes. The Red Spirit Santoku is a strong entry point into professional-grade kitchen knives. The knife is versatile enough to cover most foundational prep techniques taught in culinary programs, including vegetable work, slicing, chiffonade, herb prep, and portioning. Its manageable size also helps users build proper grip and cutting habits more comfortably than oversized blades. Because the knife supports both learning and long-term professional use, many cooks continue using it well beyond training environments.

Q: Is the Red Spirit Santoku reliable for high-volume prep work?

A: Yes. The Red Spirit Santoku is designed to perform consistently during repeated professional prep sessions. Its lightweight construction supports speed and agility, particularly on garde manger, prep, or vegetable-focused stations. The kullenschliff edge can improve workflow efficiency by reducing sticking during repetitive slicing. For cooks who prefer compact precision over heavier chef knives, the Red Spirit Santoku fits naturally into high-output kitchen environments.

Q: Can the Red Spirit Santoku replace multiple kitchen knives?

A: For many home kitchens, yes. The Red Spirit Santoku can function as the primary knife for most daily prep tasks. Its versatility allows users to handle vegetables, herbs, fruits, boneless proteins, and general slicing without switching tools constantly. The 7" blade length also feels less intimidating than larger chef knives while still offering professional cutting capability. Home cooks looking to upgrade from standard household knives often appreciate the balance between control, sharpness, and versatility this Santoku provides.
