ASIAN-STYLE HANDLE
The round, typically Asian-inspired handle has an unusual feel to it. It sits perfectly in your hand and meets all the ergonomic requirements of professional chefs and ambitious amateur chefs. The non-slip handle made of high-quality plastic allows you to guide the knife harmoniously and comfortably – a particular advantage during intensive use.

MADE IN GERMANY
A good knife requires many work steps. Our Red Spirit knives go through numerous production steps at our Deizisau site before they are finished. Starting with the machining of the steel and right through to the finishing of the cutting edge, everything made in Germany – for the love of quality.

UNCOMPROMISING SHARPNESS
The blades are designed with an uncompromising eye for sharpness, which is why they are ground extra slim. Like all our knives, the Red Spirit series is made of high-alloy stainless steel, so you can take pleasure in the edge retention of your knives for years to come.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick Red Spirit Chef Knife Ajax Red 8" best for?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chef Knife Ajax Red 8" is best suited for high-volume vegetable prep, protein portioning, and general chef knife tasks that benefit from a wider, heavier blade profile. Its Ajax-style blade combines the functionality of a traditional chef knife with the added board contact and product transfer advantages associated with broader Japanese-inspired profiles. The wider blade gives cooks more surface area for chopping herbs, crushing garlic, transferring ingredients, and maintaining control during repetitive prep work. Within the Red Spirit series, this knife is positioned as a professional daily-use tool designed for chefs who prefer a more substantial blade feel without sacrificing precision. The 8" length offers versatility across prep stations, making it suitable for both line work and production environments.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick Red Spirit Chef Knife Ajax Red 8"?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Chef Knife Ajax Red 8" is designed for professional chefs, culinary students, butchers, and serious home cooks who want a versatile chef knife with strong board control and efficient prep performance. For professional kitchens, the knife supports repetitive cutting tasks while maintaining stability and comfort through extended prep sessions. The broader blade profile is especially useful for cooks handling vegetables, proteins, and large prep volumes throughout service. For advanced home users, the knife offers a professional-style cutting experience with a recognizable ergonomic profile from the Red Spirit series. It suits users who want a knife that feels substantial and controlled during everyday prep.

Q: What makes the Red Spirit series different from other F. Dick knife series?

A: The Red Spirit series combines modern ergonomic handling with a distinctive Asian-inspired blade philosophy designed for fast, controlled kitchen work. Compared with more traditional German-profile lines such as Premier Plus or 1905, Red Spirit knives often feature slimmer geometries, lighter visual styling, and more agile cutting characteristics. The series is recognized for its red handle design, balanced handling, and professional workflow focus. The Ajax Chef Knife specifically adds a wider blade format to the series, giving users additional cutting stability and ingredient transfer efficiency during prep.

Q: How does the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife perform during high-volume prep?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife is built to perform consistently during repetitive prep tasks where stability, edge control, and efficient product movement are important. The wider blade helps maintain clean contact with the cutting board while providing additional knuckle clearance and improved leverage during chopping. This is especially useful for onions, herbs, root vegetables, cabbage, and larger ingredient volumes. Its balanced construction also reduces unnecessary wrist movement during repetitive cuts, which can help improve workflow efficiency in professional kitchens.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife suitable for precision cutting?

A: Yes. Despite its wider blade profile, the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife still supports precise slicing, controlled rocking motions, and detailed prep work. The blade geometry allows users to transition between coarse chopping and finer slicing tasks without changing knives. This makes it useful for kitchens where efficiency and station versatility matter. The pointed tip section also supports more delicate work such as trimming vegetables, portioning proteins, or fine herb preparation.

Q: What results should users expect from the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife?

A: Users should expect controlled cuts, efficient board contact, reliable edge performance, and smooth handling across a wide range of prep tasks. The knife is designed to support clean cuts rather than forcing ingredients apart, which helps maintain product quality and presentation. Its broader blade also improves ingredient transfer from board to pan or container during service prep. In professional environments, this translates into faster workflow consistency and reduced fatigue during repetitive prep sessions.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife heavy compared to a standard chef knife?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife generally feels more substantial than a narrow-profile chef knife because of its wider blade format. That added blade height contributes to stability and controlled chopping, especially during high-volume prep. However, the knife remains balanced for active kitchen use rather than feeling overly thick or cleaver-like. Many chefs prefer this style because it combines the authority of a wider blade with the versatility of a traditional chef knife.

Q: Can the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife handle proteins and vegetables equally well?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife is designed as a multi-purpose chef knife capable of handling both vegetable prep and protein processing tasks. Its blade height helps guide larger cuts through dense vegetables while also supporting slicing and portioning work for proteins. This versatility makes it practical for prep stations where one primary knife must cover multiple applications. For cooks working in compact kitchens or fast-paced environments, that flexibility can reduce unnecessary tool switching during service.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife suitable for beginners or mainly professionals?

A: The knife is approachable for committed beginners but is primarily optimized for professional or advanced users who appreciate broader blade geometry and refined handling characteristics. Culinary students and developing cooks may benefit from the knife’s stability and cutting control, especially when learning proper board technique. More experienced users will likely notice the advantages of the Ajax profile during high-output prep. Because of the blade size and professional orientation, users should still be comfortable with standard chef knife handling practices.

Q: Does the wider blade improve workflow in professional kitchens?

A: Yes. The wider blade helps improve workflow efficiency by increasing ingredient transfer capability and stabilizing repetitive cutting motions. Chefs often use the broad blade face to move chopped ingredients directly from board to cookware or containers. This reduces interruptions during prep and minimizes reliance on separate bench scrapers. The additional height can also improve finger clearance and cutting confidence during fast-paced production work.

Q: How durable is the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife for daily kitchen use?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife is designed for repeated professional kitchen use with a focus on long-term cutting reliability and practical durability. Like other professional F. Dick knives, the blade construction emphasizes edge stability, balanced hardness, and dependable performance under regular prep conditions. The knife is intended for daily service environments rather than occasional decorative use. Proper cutting surfaces, regular honing, and correct storage will help maintain edge quality over time.

Q: How should the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife be maintained?

A: The knife should be hand washed, dried immediately after cleaning, and maintained regularly with proper honing practices. Professional kitchen knives perform best when stored safely and used on appropriate cutting surfaces such as wood or professional-grade synthetic cutting boards. Dishwashers, excessive moisture exposure, and hard cutting surfaces can reduce long-term edge performance. Routine honing helps maintain cutting consistency between sharpening intervals.

Q: Does the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife work well with sharpening steels?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife is designed to be maintained with professional sharpening steels and regular honing practices. Consistent honing helps preserve edge alignment and cutting performance during heavy use. Many professional users pair Red Spirit knives with F. Dick sharpening steels to maintain workflow consistency within the same professional knife system. Periodic full sharpening is still recommended depending on usage intensity.

Q: How does the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife compare to a traditional German chef knife?

A: The F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife offers a broader, more modern cutting profile compared with a classic narrow German chef knife. Traditional German chef knives often emphasize curved rocking profiles and heavier forged construction. The Ajax profile introduces additional blade height, flatter contact zones, and more efficient ingredient transfer while still maintaining familiar chef knife versatility. For many chefs, the result is a knife that feels more adaptable for modern prep workflows.

Q: How does the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife compare to a Santoku knife?

A: The Ajax Chef Knife combines some of the board efficiency associated with Santoku knives while maintaining the versatility and tip control of a traditional chef knife. Santoku knives are often shorter and flatter, focusing heavily on push cutting and vegetable prep. The Ajax profile retains a more versatile chef knife format with additional blade length and improved rocking capability. This makes it a strong option for users who want one primary knife instead of switching between multiple blade styles.

Q: What other knives in the Red Spirit series pair well with the Ajax Chef Knife?

A: The Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife pairs well with Red Spirit paring knives, boning knives, bread knives, and Santoku knives for a complete prep workflow. Many chefs use the Ajax Chef Knife as the primary station knife while adding smaller utility blades for precision work or specialized prep tasks. The consistent handle profile across the Red Spirit series helps maintain familiar grip ergonomics between tools. This creates a more unified workflow for kitchens standardizing around one knife family.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife reliable during long prep shifts?

A: Yes. The F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife is designed for continuous prep environments where consistency, control, and reduced hand fatigue matter throughout service. The wider blade profile improves cutting stability during repetitive production work, while the balanced handling supports efficient motion across vegetables, herbs, and proteins. Many chefs prefer this style when managing prep-heavy stations because the blade doubles effectively as both a cutting tool and ingredient transfer surface. For brigade kitchens, catering production, and prep-focused workflows, the knife fits naturally into high-output service routines.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife a good first professional chef knife?

A: Yes. The knife can serve as a strong first professional chef knife for culinary students who want to develop proper cutting technique with a professional-grade tool. The broader blade encourages stable board contact and controlled movement, which can help reinforce safe prep habits during training. It also introduces students to a more professional blade geometry commonly used in modern kitchens. Because the knife is versatile across many prep tasks, students can rely on it throughout a wide range of culinary exercises and station work.

Q: Does the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife feel too professional for home kitchens?

A: No. While the knife is built for professional performance, many serious home cooks appreciate its control, versatility, and efficient prep handling. The wider blade simplifies ingredient transfer and supports confident cutting during larger meal preparation sessions. Home users who cook frequently often benefit from the same ergonomic and workflow advantages valued in commercial kitchens. For committed cooks who want professional-grade tools without excessive ornamentation, the knife fits comfortably into advanced home setups.

Q: Is the F. Dick Red Spirit Ajax Chef Knife practical for team kitchen environments?

A: Yes. The knife is practical for team kitchen environments where durability, recognizable handling, and versatile station performance are important. The Red Spirit series provides a consistent ergonomic platform across multiple knife types, helping reduce adaptation time between tools. The Ajax profile also supports a broad range of prep applications, making it suitable for shared prep stations and varied menu production. For operations standardizing professional knife systems, the knife offers a balance between modern handling and practical kitchen utility.
